Favorite Quote of the Week

I just had to giggle when I read this quote this week:

"Businesses are begun when creative people have a moment of insanity."

I do bookkeeping for a dear friend of mine, Jan Haglund, and I am keenly aware of the frustrations she faces every day trying to get her business up and running smoothly. One thing we've learned is that a point-of-sale (check-out scanning capability) is not nearly as easy to set up and run as the salesman says it will be. Hah! Now, Jan is hearing from other business owners that it takes a minimum of three years to work the bugs out. Perhaps this isn't true for everyone, but Jan is beginning to think they are right.

What makes this quote so funny is that Jan is a very creative person. She makes original artistic designs and puts them on clothing and accessories to sell in her shop in South Haven, Michigan (The Beach House). Jan has said it a million times that she wants to get the business going smoothly enough that she can get back to doing what she does best, being creative. For right now, though, insanity reigns most days.
